My Birthday Surprises 30 May 2006

Thanks, my friends and colleagues!! I enjoyed my birthday very much because of three surprises:
(1) First Surprise at the Joy Place
According to every Tuesday’s programme run by my supervisor and colleague, there will be a P.E. at the Gym Park (very near Joy Place) in the morning. After that, we will have our story-telling/reading session. Then, it will be our lunch time. The children will have their shower after their lunch. In the afternoon, the children will be given worksheets to do. After this educational & learning session, they will watch a movie. Before they are to go home, they have their free & easy program like playing indoor games, computer learning, so on…
During this programme, I was preparing to play the movie. Lights went off as usual. Suddenly, a birthday cake came.. I asked my supervisor, “Whose birthday is it?” I was so blurred that I took a few seconds to realise that they were giving me a birthday surprise. Then, I celebrated my birthday with these children together with my colleagues. My colleague gave me a pinky blouse and the children gave me a big hand-made card.
(2) Second Surprise organised by XTOMIC
On my way to the Joy Place, I had been receiving alot of sms wishes. Initially, there was no plans for my birthday celebrations. I planned to go home after my work. So pathetic.. I told Richmond, Joycelynn and a few friends about it. Then, Richmond sms me that he would meet me for a dinner. I asked him whether it’s possible to ask XTOMIC to gather together. Later, he lied to me that he had no time and he was busy with his work. So therefore, I assumed that I would have a dinner with Richmond only.
After my work, I was very early and I hanged around at the library@Orchard. While waiting for him, I sms alot to my friends. Eileen and Kenji happened to be in town, she told me in sms. I asked Richmond whether he doesn’t mind them joining us. But in his reply, he lied that he felt uncomfortable with this idea. I told her that they couldn’t join us.
When time came, Richmond and I went to Orchard Swensens. Over there, I met a few XTOMIC-ers and Eileen & Kenji!
And I realised that it was another surprise. I was glad to meet them and it was a such good feeling that I could be able to chat with them to catch up old times with them.. It was really an enjoyable moment although it ended quite early.
(3) Last Surprise from Jingle & Melody (my pet gerbils)
Upon reaching home, I saw a litter of babies in Jingle & Melody’s home. 3!! They are very small and reddish. Last time, they had their first only baby. It was bigger than them. Purple in colour. It was different from 3 babies.. However, it was eaten up by its mother.
Haha.. These 3 babies shared the same birthday as me!!
Hope they won’t be eaten up again!! *clenching my teeth*
Before I go to sleep, this special day is a good moment for my friends to gather together to have good time!!
Although my birthday lasted 24 hours, these surprises were short-lived. However, they were treasured in my heart!
Time Capsule (My Birthday Gift) 29 May 2006

Finally opened my time capsule when the clock struck 12 midnight…! It’s really a SURPRISE!!
Alright, this time capsule was given as an early birthday gift by my good friend, Andre before she flew back to Australia for her studies (her second year). I promised her not to open it till my birthday, even though I know it was meant to be my birthday gift and card.
Why did I call it “GREAT SURPRISE”?! I opened the card first, read her message and attached to the card, is the photo of 3 pretty ladies. They are Andre, Eileen and me… Andre and Eileen are still my good friends till now. Although we are leading our lives differently, we still keep in touch. This such friendship is really precious treasure that cannot be bought with anything. My heart goes all the way to it! Andre & Eileen, thanks for being my good friends whatever happens!
I was really surprised upon opening the gift. Why was it so? It was a little, yellow tall book on “Your Personal Guide to Speaking Mandarin”. Last Sunday, I saw that book at the Popular bookshop and I was thinking of buying one for myself. But I didn’t buy it because I didn’t bring enough money.
When I opened it, it really landed on my hands by just magic. Wooosh! This gift of time capsule is really incredible! Unbelievable!!
How did Andre know it even though I haven’t gotten it long ago? Imagine that she bought this book last January or February. Till last Sunday, I saw that book and in the end, I didn’t buy it. But I got it through the time capsule!
Don’t tell me that GOD arranged everything?? *winks*
Well, having a time capsule given from Andre is really interesting and meaningful. It contains complete trust between us.
Andre, thanks for this great surprise!! I love it!!! *muacks*

I just applied for a full-time course in World Music at LASALLE-SIA. Meanwhile, I hope to get application forms from overseas institutions (US & Australia) soon. I hope to enrol myself in 2007. In a such way, I will have more time for other things – building network & portfolio, reading books on percussion and music education, polishing up my percussion techniques, getting an instrument (marimba) and saving enough money for my survival only.
My plans for this year have been changed. I abandoned my idea or plan of attending the WFDeaf Conference in Spain. My top priority is to concentrate on my percussion music. I must bear it in my mind!
With total faith, trust and help from a friend, I’m really moving on to my dreams. Now, I dare to dream BIG, BIGGER.. I’m very glad to have him as my good friend and he promises me that he won’t give up on me no matter what happens. He’s now helping me with other matters like building network, sponsorships, performing work.
Not only him but I still have other friends who support me all the way. They are always there for me no matter where they are. Till now, I’m grateful to have them with me all the way.
Painful… Painful 19 May 2006

Saw a doctor about my muscle/ribs pain on the right side just now. Also, it was about the medical indemity form for the Camp Outreach 2006.
The doctor told me that the muscle/ribs pain was caused by a knock. I didn’t know how it got the bad knock. This pain started two weeks ago before I went for the short getaway trip.
For this, I couldn’t sleep well. I couldn’t laugh hard. I couldn’t breathe properly. I couldn’t sit anyhow. I had to control my breathing and laughing. I had to sit straight, properly. If I do so, I will feel very painful on that right side.
Finally, I got the painkillers from the doctor. I hope that it will go away very soon. *praying*
Special Rates for Deaf in KL 17 May 2006

During my trip in KL, there seemed to be a lot of special rates for the Deaf. I enjoyed these rates.
Hmmm, just wanna share this experience with you all, especially for my Deaf friends who wanna go to KL for a holiday.
These special rates apply in KL only:
1) Genting – Theme Parks
2) Menera KL
3) Zouk
4) Times Square – Cosmo’s World
5) KLCC Aquaria
6) Sunway Lagoon
7) Some food/drink stalls
Some hotels
Even though I forgot to bring my HHC, I only got to enjoy these rates, thanks to my Deaf friend, Angela. She encouraged me to give it a try and in the end, I enjoyed most of them. SHIOK!!
She told me alot of things. Most of the Deaf in KL enjoy free rides on monorail, LRT and some buses. So amazing!!
If you wanna enjoy these special rates, you’d better bring your HHC along. But sometimes, luck may not follow you. Just try your luck all the way. No harm doing so..
Short Getaway Trip 16 May 2006

Went on a short getaway trip to KL-Genting with Melvin, Angela and Richmond last weekend (12 May to 14 May). It was indeed enjoyable!
On 12 May, we departed for KL at around 11AM in different buses. Initially, four of us were supposed to be on the same bus, but alas, there was an extra passenger. It turned out to be one of us. So, we separated into 2 groups of 2: Richmond-Lily and Melvin-Angela.
A such long journey.
Melvin and Angela reached earlier than us at around 3.30PM. Richmond and I reached KL at 5PM. By the time when we reached there, it was raining heavily. Also, there was a traffic jam. That’s why we were late.
At Puduraya, we arranged to meet my Deaf friend, Angela. She brought us to the Tang City Hotel, which is located opposite to Chinatown. It’s quite convenient. From there, we could go to Central Market. It’s quite near!
Then, we went to the YMCA where many Deaf people frequent. But there were no sign of them. A wrong timing for us! But not really.. Angela and I bought ourselves keychains of I-Love-You. This keychain is unique!
After that, we went to Times Square by monorail. At the Times Square, we played some rides. Also, we did some little shopping. Before we went back to the hotel, we had our dinner at Chinatown.
The next day, we went to Genting. Only Melvin and I played a few thrilling rides in the Outdoor Theme Park. One of the rides I like the most is Space Shot. This ride brings you up to the top. All the way to the top, you will be able to enjoy a bird’s view at the Water & Outdoor theme parks and 2 hotels. A beautiful sight!
At the top, it “makes you fall all the way down”. It was too sudden fall for me. I screamed loudly and… WOW! COOL!!
Back from Genting, we took a rest at the hotel. We then proceeded to the Central Market. Over there, stalls/stores are really interesting! Most of the things are quite expensive, especially for the percussion instruments like komprang, djembe and shakers. We met Angela and her friends and we were brought to many places by van. We were fortunate to see a such exciting car race in front of the Old Parliament House. Many people crowded over there and supported the car racers. Vooom!! The cars raced like a bolt of lightning!! WOW!!!
The last place we went is Bangsar where nightlife is much lively. Heard from my friends that many handsome and beautiful people frequent them. Even, foreigners, gays and lesbians frequent them.. They are very open!
Well, I hadn’t seen much of its nightlife since it was still early. So, we went to have our last fill with Angela and her friends. Tried different pratas and the dish I like all of them is naan prata with cheese.
On the last day, we went back to Singapore. Since our bus’s departure time was in the morning, we didn’t have much time to see around KL. My dear friend, Angela went down to see us off. It was so nice of her!! She told me alot of things and now, I’m thinking of going there again. But that time, it will be my educational and performing trip where I can be able to visit deaf schools in KL and Penang. And, I can perform for them in percussion and song-signing. In this such way, it will be an inspiration to them.
Guess I need to plan and prepare for that trip and perhaps, it will be in September or October.
WHAT A SHOCK!! 3 May 2006

What a shock that I have ever felt!! Do you know what has happened?!
Alright, I have been keeping two gerbils, Jingle and Melody as my pets since last February. Cherylene’s brother gave me these gerbils.
This morning, I saw a small something and I realised that it was their baby gerbil. It was purple in color. It was breathing.. Quite small!
Again, Jingle is a male while Melody is a female. And now, when I reached home, I couldn’t find the baby in the cage. Another shock I received… I saw the half of the body and it was eaten by their parents!!
OH MY GOSH!! I thought Jingle and Melody are vegetarians! How cruel of them to eat their own FIRST BABY! I couldn’t take it anymore!
