SMS Technology – Part of Deaf Culture 24 April 2007

Just wanna share this issue with you all just in case that you wanna involve yourself with the Deaf Community in many ways like volunteering.
SMS technology is part of the Deaf culture. Almost all of the Deaf people communicate solely through SMS. Totally dependable..
That means, they usually expect replies, no matter how important or not important they are. If there are no replies to the senders, they may be upset, worried or something worse. At least, they should know. Unlike those calls that can be diverted like BUSY or VOICE MAIL, sms services do not have all of them. Just a button and these phone calls can be rejected. Easy job!
No matter how busy you are, you should send a BUSY sms. Or at the end of each day, you can reply to them.
This also applies to the email technology.
I’m not sure if you know something unique about it.
Almost of us often check our handphones as we sometimes may not feel vibrations. We carry them with us everywhere we go. Sometimes, we hold them in our hands. We also put them in our pockets where we can feel vibrations. It’s quite tiring! But indeed, we are used to it.
Internet and mobile technologies are now part of the Deaf culture for mainly communication. Sometimes, we envy others who talk on phones. WHY? These phone-chats specially provides “face-to-face” voices among them. This way, they can be able to distinguish between feelings, emotions and others. But sadly, we, the deafies, have this inability and we may not hear voices clearly. We eagerly wanna know what voices are like when speaking in different styles. We see hand signs/facial grammar as voices.
Is that troublesome to reply in SMS?
We hope to be treated like individuals, not HEARING-IMPAIRED (It’s true that our hearing is not perfect, that doesn’t make us impaired as people. We believe that that is exactly what “hearing impaired” is doing, labeling us as something we can’t do.)
Those who have their deaf friends or spouses, you should give this some thoughts.
Porridge Day 22 April 2007

Today was my “PORRIDGE” Day..
Hahaa… I went down to the Rajah Inn at Tiong Bahru Plaza to have lunch with XTOMICians. Also, to celebrate Jim’s birthday. Over there, they provide the porridge buffet from 11.30AM to 2.30PM. $5.90 for each person. A little expensive to me. But it’s once a while..
After my sign language lesson, I had dinner with my family at Jurong East coffee shop, serving Teochew porridge. It’s to celebrate my mother’s mother.
Hahaa, both of the porridge meals were delicious!! Enjoyed them throughout the whole day. =)

Delighted tonight…!
My percussion instructor, Mr. Damien sent me a sms when I was on my way home from SADeaf. He told me that I passed my ABRSM Grade 6 exams (Percussion) with MERT.
Me surprised! This’s my first time passing with MERIT!!
Now, I’m taking my ABRSM Grade 8 exams in Percussion. And, I’ve made up my mind to skip Grade 7 since I wanna save money and I have confidence to pass the Grade 8. Guess, I have to work hard for it..
GO FOR IT!

Boring (adjective) : Not interesting; tedious.
One week has passed. My temp job is quite boring, well, it’s only admin work. All the way, I have been “cleaning their dirty work”. Filing, checking, stamping, stapling, labeling…
Sighz, it can’t be helped since I need it for some income earnings. Still looking for a full-time permanent job…

Some time ago, I went with the Canossian School Percussion Band. That was my third time going overseas with them. My first time was to Thailand and the second time was to Italy.
Out of three, I like Italy the most. The furthest country that I travelled. Miss those memories…
Although it was a short 4D3N trip, I did enjoy the whole process. It has been my pleasure to prepare the children with their songs. Also, I’m glad to perform duet percussion with Hau En.
Took alot of photos…
